Lewis Capaldi – Someone You Loved

Lewis Capaldi Someone You Loved MP3 Download

Scottish singer songwriter Lewis Capaldi achieved global breakthrough with Someone You Loved, a devastating piano ballad about loss, longing, and learning to live without someone who made life feel safe. Released on November eighth twenty eighteen through Vertigo Records as the third single from his Breach EP, it later anchored his debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.

Co written by Capaldi, Samuel Romans, and producers Thomas Barnes, Peter Kelleher, and Benjamin Kohn of TMS, the track was sent to US radio on April sixteenth twenty nineteen. Despite humble beginnings, it became a sleeper hit, peaking at number one on UK Singles Chart for seven weeks, topping charts in Ireland, Canada, and Malaysia, and reaching number one on Billboard Hot 100 after twenty four weeks.

Lyrically, Someone You Loved explores emptiness after a profound absence. While fans assumed it addressed ex girlfriend Paige Turley, Capaldi clarified in interviews it was inspired by his late grandmother’s death and the end of a relationship. Lines like I’m going under and this time I fear there’s no one to save me capture grief, vulnerability, and the shock of losing a daily anchor unexpectedly.

The production remains minimal, built around melancholic piano, subtle strings, and restrained percussion that highlights Capaldi’s raspy, soulful vocal. The chorus now the day bleeds into nightfall and you’re not here to get me through it all swells with emotional intensity. Its simplicity allowed listeners to project their own heartbreak, making it a universal anthem for bereavement, breakup, and emotional recovery worldwide.

Commercially, the record became one of the decade’s biggest successes, certified Diamond in multiple countries, nominated for Song of the Year at the sixty second Grammy Awards, and winning Song of the Year at 2020 Brit Awards. In August twenty twenty five it became only the fourth song to surpass four billion streams on Spotify, cementing its status as a modern standard for heartfelt balladry.
